Thousands of people flocked the Camille Chamoun stadium to witness the opening ceremony of the Sixth Francophone Games on September 27th. Top politicians attended the grand opening such as President Michel Sleiman, caretaker Prime Minister Fouad Siniora, Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri and Parliament Speaker Nabhi Berri.

44 countries, which were presented individually, came to participate in the games and Lebanon made us proud with a ceremony that introduced the rich history and diverse culture of Lebanon including Byblos, Sidon, Tyr and Jbeil in a comprehensive musical picture. Icon and world renowned Lebanese singer Magda al-Roumi sang her most popular song about Lebanon “Ya Beirut” followed by a duo with Senegalese artist Youssen N’Dior. Fireworks then lit the skies of Lebanon marking the beginning of the games.
