Loreena McKennitt kicks off Byblos festival
Tell Your Friends » The Byblos International festival kicked off its festivities with one of the most memorable performances by Loreena McKennitt, the international musician with Celtic and Middle Eastern themes.
Her soprano vocals telling a story in every song filled the Byblos stage with traditional and cultural sounds from around the globe. Her music tends to have a mixture of all individual sounds, hence, naming her music an international one. She has eight record albums and over 10 released singles.
From McKennitt’s outfit and style, the instruments and the lights to the ruins behind her that date to 5000 BC, all came together to draw a magical musical picture. Prior to some of the songs, McKennitt gave a short story introducing the song and her inspirations, at some points, she actually threw in words in French and English.
The crowd flooded the event with many familiar faces up front. Our president Michel Sleiman and the first lady were one of them. Next time, be part of the crowd and mark your calendars so you won’t miss one of the big Byblos events to come!
