Ladies and perhaps some gents, I think it’s time we eradicate the powerful influence that has strapped many girls into fashion disaster. I’m talking about those wretched removable transparent bra straps.

I have no idea how this fashion foe came into existent and became so popular that so many girls are wearing them; except for a minor segment of people with good vision and a good sense of fashion, of course.  I have thought many times about grabbing scissors and walking around town just cutting off those repulsive handles. And the worst part is, they have them in colors. Transparent in colors!

I understand the idea and I fully understand that some girls just want to wear a fully-equipped bra. But why would all those lingerie stores go through all the trouble to create a strapless bra that holds you perfectly. And ladies, they exist. Trust me, they do.

Here is what I despise about the transparent straps. First off, I can see them which defeats the purpose of wearing transparent or clear straps. They’re very easy to spot and…here it goes: They are not as transparent as you think they are. And perhaps one more thing while I’m at it, Santa Clause is a myth.

Secondly, they ruin an outfit. I always see someone with a nice tube top, a cute necklace and some ugly-looking lines along the shoulders. But why? Tube tops are designed to show off your shoulders or a nice accessory. Straps ruin outfits and they distract from whatever you’re trying to show off.

“I would want my bra strap to show rather than wearing a transparent one that shows”, one of the enlightened people who are against the straps said to me once.  And that is not as tacky as some of those clear straps make your outfit look.

Third of all, have you ever seen Madonna wearing a Dolce & Gabanna top with transparent straps? Or some Haute Couture runway show with the models showing off some not-so-transparent lines coming down their shoulders? Or any of the Sex & the City episodes where any of the fashion forward ladies ruining their outfits with something so fashion backwards?

I’ve been talking to some friends about it and they agree. Or just try reading some fashionista blogs and all would tell you the same thing. Check out this blog which is solely to show you how ugly they can be: http://sillyconed.blogspot.com/

Ladies, for the love of fashion and my sanity, please attempt to wear an outfit sans those silicon straps and you will notice the difference, and perhaps thank me later.  I’m starting the revolution, who’s with me?

You could also find Dana around town with a crazy look on her face…and scissors.
